A Touch of Fall in the Bedroom

I only put a touch of Fall into our master bedroom.  I came across this great post from Becoming Martha {great blog, go check out what Sarah is up to}.  She turned me onto this great website Tagxedo where you can make up your own word art within a picture and print it out for free.  You can add your own words, change the colors and fonts.  Check out Becoming Martha for the how-to’s to get through this site.  Go check it out, it’s pretty cool.  Thanks for turning me onto this site Sarah.  :)
I Googled the term “fall vocabulary word list”.  It gives you lots of words to choice from.  I just deleted the words I really didn’t want.  You can use as many words as you want or as little as you want.  Have fun with it.  Or just come up with your own words.
I bought the frame at HomeGoods.  It’s a blue/green color with a dark glaze like affect over it.
I added a burnt orange runner to my dresser to add to the Fall feel.
Then I added a few pieces to my nightstand and I was done.  Yeah I didn’t even realize the frame match the Fall pieces.  haha!
I hope you like my “Touch of Fall” that I added to my bedroom.  Decorating doesn’t have to be over the top to bring in a little feel of a holiday or season. For me when it comes to Fall I like the burnt oranges and the greens, but I like the pop of white with it.  Then when it comes to Spring/Summer I like more whites with pops of blues.  Winter is usually silver, white & blues.
Thanks for stopping over everyone!!!  Have a great day!!!  :)

Fall Into New Bedding

I needed some new Fall bedding because last year I bought a new king size duvet, which meant I needed to buy new king size duvet covers as well.

I’ve been looking for months for a duvet cover and I finally found one that I loved.  Since I love Bed Bath and Beyond so much for their coupons, it was great to use my 20% off coupons for this new purchase.  The duvet cover is sold separate from the shams, so I was able to use three 20% off coupons to buy all three pieces.  SCORE!!!

If you have been following me for awhile, you might notice something different about the room.  Can you see what changed?
{don’t mind the ugly lighting, I’ve learned to use my DSLR a lot better now with no lights}
Let’s see some before pictures.

Yup we moved the bed to the longer wall.  Our bedroom is only 13×11 feet.  When we were shopping for furniture for this room we thought this was the only way we would fit everything into the room and still have room to walk around the bed and be able to get past the dressers.  We don’t have a very large closet, so we needed two dressers.  Last weekend I woke up with this thought of finally just moving the bed to the longer wall and seeing if we had enough room or not.  We have hardwoods and all the furniture has felt on the legs, so we just had to “push” everything around the room.  And IT WORKED!!!  I’m so excited.  We actually had more room then we thought we would have and we both love the room in the new layout.

Here is the duvet cover online at Bed Bath and Beyond.  This was the look I fell in love with in the store.  They actually had a bed made up just like this.  I fell in love right away.

But I knew I wanted it for the Fall/Winter months, so I had to find some dark moody sheets to go with the new duvet cover.  I finally found a nice dark blue set of sheets.  They are gorgeous.

You might have also noticed that we had to move some of the stuff around that was on the walls.  A frame and our Aloha plaque had to be moved because the headboard was too high.  Now they live on this wall instead.

I actually love them on this wall so much better.  The frame has a Hawaiian marriage prayer that we received as a gift for our wedding.  The plaque we bought when we went to Hawaii for our honeymoon.  Our friend didn’t even know we were going to Hawaii for our honeymoon when we received the gift.  They go together so nicely, no?
Now we don’t have a problem with this mirror.  We were able to lower it and center it on this wall now and it’s a center piece all by itself.  We love it.  And I also don’t have to wonder now what else to do to this wall to balance out the window.  The picture frame ledges are centered on the new wall that the bed is on, so I don’t have to figure anything new out.  Lovin’ that!!!  :)
There are those dark blue sheets.  Love them!!!
I “adore” the design on this duvet cover.  The color is light beige with a darker gray/beige {greige}.  I’m lovin’ greige right now, so this was perfect.  I can also have this duvet cover on at any time of the year.  I really need some new pillows, but that will have to wait for a little while.

I know that this look might not be for everyone, because the bed isn’t lined up with the shelves.  But they are centered on the wall between the window and the right wall, so they stayed.  I wasn’t moving the shelves around and making new holes.  If I ever get knew shelves, they I will probably change the look around some, but for now, it works for us.

I love Fall.  All the dark muted colors makes everything feel so warm and cozy.  What colors do you use for the Fall season?  Have you charged over to Fall colors yet or are you still waiting for September 22, 2012 for the 1st official day of Fall?

Thanks for stopping by everyone!!!  Have a great day!!!  :)

To Keep or Not to Keep This Mirror

So the last week I tried to describe the mirror I brought for my Master Bedroom.  I’m sure I didn’t do a very good job of it at all.  So here is the mirror I bought at HomeGoods for $59.99.  It’s a white destressed mirror.  Here are the details.

See the circle within the square frame I was trying to explain in my other post.  Well yes, we hung it in a diamond shape, but it’s still a square frame with a round frame. 😉
Aren’t the carved out wood details gorgeous?
And here it is in all it’s glory hanging in our master bedroom.
So now here is my problem.  I hope you {my readers} will help me out a little.  I need your feedback with this one.  I can’t make a decision about it, so I would love to here what you think about this mirror on this wall.  We thought about hanging it square, but there are so many other things in the room that are square I thought hanging it like a diamond would look better.  Here are some problems I have:  I think it’s to big for the wall above the bed, I can’t change the fact that I only have one window on this wall & we would like to install crown molding one day, but as you can see in the picture we wouldn’t be able to install crown molding because the point is about 1 inch from the ceiling.  Sure we could hang it square, but then it wouldn’t be that different from anything else in the room that is square.  So I think as much as I love this mirror, it either has to go back to HomeGoods or it has to go in another room….maybe our office.
Here you can see what it looks like with the rest of the room.

And it can’t be hung any lower because of the high headboard.

Then of course this problem.  It seems unbalanced.  But I also feel there is plenty of other decor on the left wall.  What do you guys think?

I actually really love this mirror from IHeartOrganizing.  So I think I’m going to try to find a mirror more like this one….just round….not square with round.
Over at Young House Love, they hung a round mirror over the bed in their guest room & they only have one window on that wall also.  So I think I might be ok with a round mirror & just the window on my bed wall.  What do you guys think?  Though they do have more room from the headboard to the window, we don’t.  Our headboard is right at the window trim.

So please take my poll!  Purty please!!!  I would love to hear what you guys think.  You can also leave a message in the comment area to give me any other ideas you might have.  I’m stuck on this one.
Thanks for stopping by everyone!  Have a great day!!!  :)

Finding The Best Product for the Job

OK, so my shoe storage was not doing it for me at all.  The extra shoe storage I have under our bed, just wasn’t cutting it for me.  I found it annoying to pull this piece out everyday and unzipper it and then of course do the same thing when I got home.  Call me lazy, but it just wasn’t working for me at all.  I would wind up leaving my shoes out all over the bedroom, neatly of course, but still not under the bed where they were supposed to be.  So I had to find something else that was going to be easier, so I could stay organized.
So I continued to look for an over-the-door shoe holder that I liked and went with the style of the bedroom in some way.  Now it will never be seen by anyone but me & the hubby, but I still wanted style.
Once again, Home Goods was good to me.  It was beige with a little design to it and it wasn’t some bold black & hot pink like I’ve been seeing for back-to-college kids.  So for $12.99 it came home with me and now lives on the back of the door to our master bedroom.  Both products hold the same amount of shoes {12 pairs}, so it worked for me.  Now I use the one under the bed for out of season shoes….a.k.a. shoes I don’t wear all the time.  So I didn’t have to get rid of the other one, now I just don’t have to use it as often.

So me & my shoes are happy now.  I can see what I have to wear quicker and I can put them away a lot quicker.  Completely happy with my choice.  It’s the little things that make a girl happy and anything easier always makes me happy.

Where are your shoes stored?  Do you hate or love the way you store your shoes?  Are they in your closet or under your bed or behind your door?   I would love to hear all about your shoes and where you store them.  Leave a link or a comment in the comment area so we can all hear about it.

Have a great day everyone!  :)

Jewelry For Your Dressers

After updating my bathroom cabinets with some new jewelry here, I decided I really loved the new knobs and I had tried one out in the bedroom and…..I love it.

Here are the dressers & nightstands before with the old knobs.  They are so small and not very easy to open the drawers with really.  Plus they are more masculine that I would like, but I loved the furniture, so I figured one day I would change them out.  Well almost 4 years later, I’m finally changing out those knobs.

This is my dresser.  See how you really can’t see the knobs?  The knobs are brushed nickle.

Let me zoom in on one for you, so you can see how small they are.

The Hubbies dresser.  {sorry some pictures are not clear. i took them and didn’t look first before I moved on put the new knobs on}

Nightstand.

Now this is what the nightstands & dressers look like.

Ohhhhhhh so pretty now.

So for $14.99 per package at Target, we needed 8 packages total, this little mini makeover cost us just under $120.  We love our mini makeover.

Here is the link to the knobs at Target.  They are made of acrylic.  They also come in other colors {link to all acrylic knobs at Target} and they even have pulls to go with some of these knobs.

Here are some other pictures of our bedroom.  You can also see some older pictures here.

So has anyone done any mini makeovers in their home?  Bedroom?  Livingroom?  Kitchen?  Bathroom?  Let’s share the details!!!
Thanks for stopping by everyone! Have a great day! I would love to hear your comments, so please leave one if you want. I love sharing and inspiring others, but I also love feed back and sharing of others ideas and thoughts. :)

Tour My Master Bedroom

Welcome 2011. This is going to be the year for new things. Making more time for my Blog that I love, more time for projects in the house and more inspirational posts.
Welcome to my Master Bedroom. I’m going to take you through a few changes I have made over the last 3 years we have owned our house.

These 4 pictures are from when we first bought the house and started to paint.  The color is by Benjamin Moore and is called “Brittany Blue”.  It’s a light slate blue.

This is what our bedroom looked liked after we were done with the painting and moved in.

Now is when I started to make some changes to the room.  I wanted to lighten things up for the Spring/Summer months.  I changed the curtains, the duvet & added an area rug.

Then the Fall was here.  So I changed the duvet again, added a burnt orange throw and sold the area rug. It just wasn’t doing it for me anymore.  I love the look without the rug.  We just have small area rugs right next to the bed on both sides.

We finally added something to the walls.  It only took me 2 years to figure out what I wanted on that wall.  The shelves & letters are from Kohl’s, the picture frames are from Ikea.  I changed the throw again to a multi blue colored one.  I have a thing for throws.

Then this year I decided I needed to change the lamp shades.  These are a natural fiber and I bought them from Target.  Me loves Target.

I just recently found new curtains and new rods.

Curtains, throw and decorative pillow are all a light Lime Green color.  Love blue and green together. Light and fresh.  Love the new look of our master bedroom.  Curtains are from Ikea, throw & pillow from Home Goods.  New curtain rods are from Target.

I also added some Interior Decorating books (bought at Home Goods) to my side table on the left.  Hubby’s side has a funky crystal with a crystal book under it (also bought at Home Goods).  Still have to find something for above the bed.

Here you can see the small area rug next to the bed.  It’s from Kohl’s.

Love the look of this ruffled throw.  Lots of texture.

This funky vase is from Home Goods.

Close up of the new curtain rod.
Hope you liked all my changes.
We are working on a small redo in one of our bathrooms and soon we will be working on our Laundry Room Remodel.  Pictures and details coming soon.
