Dresser Time

We bought a dresser from Ikea for the nursery.  I saw this dresser all over the internet in other nurseries and I knew I had to have it as well.  It really is a great size dresser for any bedroom, but putting it in the nursery was perfect.

We bought the Hemnes dresser from Ikea.  It has lots of parts, but it was pretty easy for us to put this dresser together.  I would like to change the drawer pulls but until I find something these are the ones that come with the dresser.  I would like to find pink or turquoise pulls.  Above the dresser I would like to put long mirror but haven’t found anything I love yet.

This dresser will also serve as our little ones changing table.  I can’t wait to put this all together.  We have some shopping to do still.

Look how fun the inside of the drawers are.  Yup Ikea gives you this bottom for the drawers.  It only comes in this yellow, but I thought it was fun.

Skubb boxes from Ikea.  They come in a couple of different colors too.  Here, here and here.  They also have these boxes.  I thought this was a great way to organize the babies drawers.  I can’t wait to start to fill everything up with what our little one needs.  Diapers, clothes, etc.

The set comes with 3 different sizes {2 of each size} and you can fit them however you need them in your drawers.

You can check out this post to see what other details might be going into the nursery.  Lots of ideas.  We still have so much more to do but it will come together over the next 2.5 months.

I’m looking for curtain rods still so wish me luck that I find something soon.  I really want to get the curtains up already.  Want to see the curtains I have picked?  They seem to be temporarily unavailable online right now.  Sorry.  But you can see a picture of them in the link.

Thanks for stopping by everyone!!!  Have a great day!!!  :)

Nursery Before & After

Well it’s more like Before & During, not really “After” yet.  But we are getting there.

We have gotten a lot done in the nursery.  We took everything out of this room, fixed the walls a little, primed, painted, added crown molding, added a closet organizer and painted the inside of the closet.  Now we are moving onto the furniture part of this make over.  I will post about that soon.

So here is what the 2nd bedroom…aka nursery looked liked for the last 6 years we have lived in our house.  It was a light sage green.  I always thought it was going to be the perfect color to go with a boy or girl when the time came.  Well 6 years later and my taste has changed.  Heck it was only half a wall that we would have to paint anyway, so what was the big deal.  πŸ˜‰ Well we painted the bottom half white again because it needed a new coat of paint.  So all the trim and the wainscotting was repainted white.  Valspar off the shelf Ultra White, no VOC, low order paint.  Love it.  It’s actually a paint and primer in one.  Did a pretty good job!!!

So I wanted to go with a neutral color on the top half of the wall.  I wanted this room to be able to grow with our little girl.  So I was on the hunt for the perfect true grey.  I found it really quickly too.  I thought it was going to take weeks and I was going to drive my sweet husband crazy.  But we went and picked up Valspar samples and by the time the colors all dried, I knew which one I wanted.  The lighter grey on the left.  Valspar Bay Waves.  LOVE IT!!!  It was the perfect true grey for me.
So we painted all the walls and then started to put up the crown molding.  We did the same molding in our Family Room.  It makes it so much easier with the “blocks” in the corners then trying to miter all the corners.  At least for us, we think it’s easier.  Plus we like how the blocks look.
Then you just have to install the crown.  Measure in between blocks and make  straight cuts.  Goes up a lot quicker.  We love how it turned out.  Now to get the rest of the rooms in our house done with crowning molding.  We just had to caulk all the seams and do touch up painting.  Then we were done.  Caulk is always your best friend with projects like this.  It fills in anything that is uneven or if you don’t have straight walls.  It gives your crown molding that professional look.  I have some close up pictures of the caulking project, but I will save that for another post.

Let’s take a look at the change the closet went through.  We were using this closest for our winter coats, dresses, curtains & my extra shoes.  There was also misc stuff up on the shelf above the rack of clothes.  We had to find room in the rest of the house for all this stuff.  So I purged first, made some donations and put the remainder in other closets.

So here is the closet emptied of our stuff.  We painted it a fun turquoise color on the inside.  Benjamin Moore “Spirit in the Sky” color matched to Valspar paint.  I will be bringing in Pink & Turquoise into the nursery in other ways with decor and bedding.

To make the closet organizer we purchased different pieces from two different stores.  We bought the Ikea Expedit for the main piece of the organizer.  Then we went to Lowe’s to buy one long metal clothes rod that my husband cut down to size for each four sections.  We also bought one large prefinished white shelf and cut that into three pieces.  One long shelf on top and two small shelves on the lower level of rods.

Let’s check out some detailed pictures of the closet.   Awwwww look at all the cute girlie stuff I bought already.  I couldn’t wait for my shower in June.  haha

Let’s see some before and afters next to each other.  I love the grey instead of the green.  I could have done a green & pink nursery, but I just love grey right now and I’m so glad I made the decision to repaint.  The grey can be paired with any other color in the future as our little girl gets older and wants something different then pink or turquoise in her room.  It will be fun to play around with different colors in the future.
This is a view from the hallway.  I love seeing the grey instead of the green.
Next up we will be putting together the dresser we bought from Ikea.  I have seen so many nurseries with this dresser in it and it seems so functional for a nursery.  I can’t wait to fill it up and organize it.
If you want to check out other posts about the nursery you can check them out here, here and here.

Thanks for stopping by everyone!!!  Have a great day!!!  :-)

Small Nursery Update

Well it has been a crazy couple of weeks since I last wrote.  Things are moving along, but not 100%, with the nursery and office makeovers.  It’s a lot of work and I can only help do so much around here lately.  I’m getting tired quicker and sometimes I just have to sit down for awhile and relax.  πŸ˜‰

I took these two pictures with my cell phone, so I will have to get you better pictures and more pictures soon.

We used this bedroom as a storage room for the most part, so we had a lot of cleaning out to do.  This closet was full of our winter coats and extra shoes.  Plus a lot of other stuff.  We had a lot to purge or to find other space for it in the house.  So we have been hard at work for weeks now with this room and the office.  Trying to figure out what can fit where.  And we did it…well for the most part.  The office is a little messy now, but I will get to that at some point and show you what we did in there.  Hopefully before this baby is born.  πŸ˜‰

The closet is actually finished now, but I didn’t have a picture of that on my phone.  We did install a shelf on the top of the Expedit for extra storage.  Then we added four rods for clothes.  Two rods on either side on top and two rods about half way down on either side.

Top Half of Wall Color – Valspar Bay Waves
Bottom Half of Wall Color – Valspar Ultra White {off the shelf color}

Valspar Ultra paint is low order and no VOC.  The line we used is a Paint & Primer in one.  Two coats and everything looks great.  We had to go over a green wall on the top half of the wall.

We will hopefully have crown molding going in this weekend, so I will have better pictures soon of the whole room.  Then we can add in furniture.

Thanks for stopping by everyone!!!  Have a great day!!!  :)

Organizing the Nursery and Home Office

I’ve been hard at work at home trying to organize our 2nd and 3rd bedrooms.  Bedroom #2 will be the nursery and bedroom #3 is already the office.  I WILL have updates on both of these shortly.  I’m at 23 weeks now and working full time.  My weekends are full of cleaning, organizing, buying products we need to organize better and put those products together, and of course a lot of rest in between.  I have been taking some pictures along the way, so I will be able to show you where we started in all of this.  Sorry I just haven’t had the time to post much lately.  I miss this little old blog.
So I will have updates about how we organized our office better.  We worked with what we had and then had to buy some other products because we just had too.  This is why I love Ikea.  πŸ˜‰
Then I will have updates about the nursery.  That I should be able to take you week by week on.  We haven’t started doing any of the work in that room yet to change it over.  We only have taken all of the stuff out of that room.  We will be on vacation for a week working on the nursery, so I should have lots of updates along the way.
Here are some pretty pictures of some of the things that we have bought or order for the nursery and the office.  I will review the homemade products after I have received them.  All vendors have been great to work with so far.  :)
I bought a similar crib skirt to this one.  I changed the fabrics around a little.
I bought a similar crib rail cover to this one, but with fabric that matches the crib skirt.  Can’t wait to show you the whole thing together.
via the same vendor as above
Here are the fabrics that I chose for the skirt and the rail covers.
For the office we bought the following.
We needed more storage to accommodate all of our stuff.  Believe me, we purged hard too and we still needed extra storage.  We actually really love how our office looks right now.  We are questioning why we didn’t do this years ago.  We finally feel like we have a proper office and proper storage.
We needed, well mostly I needed, extra shoe storage space.  All of my extra off season shoes were in the closet in the nursery, so I purged and then we found this lovely at Ikea and it fit where we wanted to put it and it fit all of our extra shoes.  :)
OK so hopefully this weekend I will finish up making the office look pretty so I can take all of my “after” pictures so I can show off this room to all of you.  There will still be work to be done in the office, but we need to move on to the nursery and start fixing walls, priming and painting already.  Lots to do and I hope you will come back for the journey!!!  :)
Thanks for stopping by everyone!!!  Have a great day!!!  :)

I’m Back and with some GREAT News!!!

I’m so sorry for being MIA for so long, but I had a lot of things going on before the holidays and I needed to take a break from blogging.  BUT I’m back and I’m back with some great news.  We are expecting our first baby!!!  :)  YAY!!!!  We had a very long road {2 years} of trying and finally with some help we were able to finally conceive!!!  Our little miracle for sure.  We feel very blessed and we are super excited.  I’m 13 weeks right now and after my 12 week sono was clear and I could stop worrying so much, I thought “finally it’s time to go back to blogging and to share the next part of my journey in life with all of you.”
Of course you know this means that there will be a nursery to decorate and I am extremely excited to finally be able to put a nursery together in our home.
So until we find out if we are having a girl or a boy, I thought I would show you some ideas that I have been pinning into a “secret board” on Pinterest.  Sorry, but I couldn’t let certain people know yet.  But I’ll show you some of my ideas now.
I really love gray right now, so we will paint the walls a light to medium gray. We already have wainscotting in the room because the previous owners put it there.  So we only have to paint the upper half of the walls gray.  YAY!!!
So gray is neutral and can go with anything, the room will either be gray, pink, turquoise and white OR gray, turquoise, {maybe green too, like a lime green but not so bright} and white.
Let’s take a look at the eye candy now.  I can’t wait to make some decisions about the colors in a few weeks.  :-)
I wouldn’t use the turquoise on the wall.  The bottom half would be white where the wainscotting is and the upper half would be gray. Then I would bring in the pink & turquoise as pops of color.  The furniture would be white and hopefully a gray rocker/glider.

I just love how gray, turquoise and white look together.  If we had a little boy, I could always go with gray and navy for a big boy room and add in darker grays too and take away the turquoise.

I was thinking about some muscle cars or even airplanes for a little boys room.  Both me and my husband love muscle cars and my husband loves all sorts of planes.
This is the dresser I’m getting either way.  It’s from Ikea.  The link is below.  I have seen this dresser in sooooo many nursery pictures and it really seems like the perfect piece to put in the nursery for a girl or boy.
Ikea also sells these great boxes.  They come in a set of 6 with 3 different sizes to fit into your dresser drawers.  I’m definitely getting 1 or 2 sets of these boxes.  And at $7.99 a set, who can resist some good organization.
Same dresser with the same set of boxes I was just referring to from Ikea.  I love how organized the dresser/changing table is.  I will use mine for a changing table as well.  Our nursery is on about a 10×9 foot room, so space is an issue and organization and lots of storage will be key for this room and for my sanity I’m sure.  πŸ˜‰  Check out how big those drawers look.  I’m going to check out the dresser in person in a few weeks and make sure I love it in person as well.
For the closet I want to do something like this with shelves on one side and double hanging clothes rods on the other side.  The shelves might have to be a little smaller but this is the look I want.  I can always take out the shelves down the road to use for longer pieces of clothing if it’s a girl.  I would probably keep the shelves though if it’s a boy.
Maybe even something like this, but I think I like the one above better.
And of course every baby closet should have these dividers I think.  Well something like these.  I like the colors, but I’m not sure about the patterns yet.  We will see.  Once I know if it’s a girl or boy, then I can really decide on pattern and color.  haha!!!
I need to take some pictures of the room soon so you can see what I’m dealing with.  We are trying to reorganize all three bedrooms that we have taken over for the last 5 years we have lived in the house.  Yup we spread out and now we need to purge, donate and organize everything better in our bedroom and in our office room.  We already started to purge the office and purge and reorganize, so I will be sharing my office with you finally as well.  We have a lot to do before July 2013!!!  But it’s all good and we feel great to finally get the house organized better.  I’m sure there will be lots to throw away and lots to donate to GoodWill.  I can’t wait.  Our home feels heavy and we need to feel not so weighed down anymore.  It feels good with what we did so far.  Can’t wait to share pictures with you.
Thanks for stopping by everyone!!!  Have a great day!!!  :)

Nice soft pink with black & white.  Very classic looking.
This room I truly love.  Even though it’s neutral in color, it just has such great elements to the room.  This is for sure a room that goes from Nursery right to young adult.  Great storage, furniture and just enough pretty bling to let you know it’s a girl’s room.  And don’t forget all of the natural elements in the room {shades, rug, flower}.
