De-Cluttering the Pantry/Kitchen

I’m following Mary Organizes De-Cluttering challenge.  I posted about it here.  This week was the kitchen/pantry areas.  I was able to get to the pantry so far.  It feels really good to de-clutter/organize this pantry.  It’s been like this for months now and I needed something to kick me in the butt to make me finally do it.  I have more areas to get to in the kitchen, but wasn’t able to completely follow Mary’s schedule 100%.

I even have extra room to put more stuff from the Kitchen if I need to.  YAY!!!  It feels so good that the Pantry was reorganized.  I love opening the door now, because it makes me feel less stressed about one area in my home.  I have a lot of other reorganizing to do in my home and I plan to follow Mary Organizes as much as I can each week so hopefully I can get it all done.
De-cluttered/reorganized my corner cabinet in the kitchen too.  Sorry the before is blurry.  I needed to make room for my newborns stuff so I could get it off of my counter.  I will show you how I organized the rest of my counter in a future post.  I threw away most of the stuff in this cabinet.  There was some really old stuff in there.  I really don’t like this corner cabinet, but I think it works for right now for my baby’s stuff and for my tea’s.  I’m sure it will change over time but for now this works for me.
Thanks for stopping by everyone!!!  What did you de-clutter this week?  Love to hear all about it.  Leave a comment if you want to share with all of us.  Have a great day!!!

My Newborn and Joining a De-Cluttering Challenge

Hi everyone!!!  Sorry it’s been such a long time since I have blogged, but between working and being pregnant and getting ready for our first baby….it just took over my life and I didn’t blog.  But I’m going to try to blog more and show you how our house is going to change with our new little one in the house.
Here is our Baby Girl!!!  We are so in love with her.
I’m joining the 91 Day De-Clutter Challenge with Mary from Mary Organizes.  Well I will try my hardest to follow this challenge for 91 days.  I have a newborn in the house right now, so hopefully I will be able to “de-clutter” during nap times.  ๐Ÿ˜‰
I don’t have all of these same rooms, but I will try to do something for each of these 13 weeks.  Seems like a really great challenge that we should all do at least once a year to take back our homes.
I will be working on some kitchen cabinets, drawers and my pantry closet this week.  I can’t wait to get rid of some stuff that has been sitting in those areas for way too long.
Are you going to join this challenge?  I would love to see what you de-clutter so leave a message here so I can check out what you de-clutter in your home.  Happy cleaning!!!  :)

Organizing Kitchen Cabinets

Some of our kitchen cabinets were completely out of hand and I couldn’t take it anymore.  I had to find something to make things easier to find when I opened those doors.  I looked at Target’s $1 section first and didn’t find anything that would work for my cabinets and I also checked out a bunch of different Dollar Stores in my area and nothing yet again.  So I went to Google, because Google is our friend that helps us find great deals when we can’t find them in the box stores.
Let’s take a look at what I found to organize my cabinets.
Here is the “Before” of these two cabinets.  Yes the one on the right really isn’t that messy I know, but I did fix it up a little bit.  I also add two containers to it.  I thought I was going to use them in the left cabinet, but they didn’t fit on the bottom shelf and I couldn’t move the shelf any higher, so I had to use them for something else.  Of course now, I will have to make another trip to Ikea to get three more on those tall containers to finish off the look I started.
This is what I bought from Ikea.  It’s called “Ikea 365+ Jar”.  It only comes in these three different sizes in New York.  Tall=$3.99, Medium=$2.99 and Small=$1.99.  I spent $23.00 on the 8 pieces that I bought.
The lids snap down tight when you close them and there is a very good seal on the flip top part of the lid as well.

OK, first I wanted this set from Bed, Bath & Beyond, OXO Good Grip Square Food Storage Pop Containers.  They range from $19.99 to $7.99.  So if I had bought one of each from this container line it would have cost me $101.93 for 7 pieces.  YIKES!!!  Now don’t get me wrong, they might be better for freshness, but I was not willing to spend over $100.00 on containers.  I think Ikea really came through with their containers and I couldn’t be happier right now.  I only spent $23, so I saved myself $77.00 for this cabinet.
Now let’s take a look at what I bought to organize my pots and pans.  Look at this crazy mess I had going on.  I have paper towels in between everything not to scratch them.  I don’t have really high end pots and pans, but I still want them to last as long as possible.
Check out what it looks like afterwards.  I can pull everything out a lot easier now.  I can see what I’m looking for too.  Oh wait….what is missing…YES the paper towels are now gone.  YAY!!!  I hated how that looked.  Now everything is much cleaner looking.  I also put the large pots on the shelf and a few other pieces I don’t use that often.  The bottom shelf is what gets used the most now.
This is what I bought for that cabinet.  Everything I found on Amazon for really good prices.  I actually did not look in any stores for these products, but I still think the prices were good.
This cabinet I only go into when we have company for the most part.  There are a ton of Pyrex, platters and serving bowls.  I even purged a couple of things out of this cabinet a few months ago, so it was actually worse then this.  But seriously, every time I wanted something I had to almost take everything out just to get to it.  So I had to come up with something to make things a little easier.
The “after”.  Oh yeah, so much better.
I bought 3 of these.  Two of them went in this cabinet and I still have another cabinet to clean out and organize, but I ran out of steam over the weekend.  I have three other organizational projects that I need to do and hopefully I can get to them this weekend.  Then the kitchen with almost be completely organized.  I’m so proud of myself for finally moving my butt to do all of this.

Well one last thing I want to show you is this part of my counter in the Kitchen.  I just never liked this corner.  I never know what to do with a corner like this.  So I played around with a couple of trays that I had in other rooms to make it look nicer and make it look like there’s not as much stuff.

So now it looks like this.  I like it a little bit better now, but I have to look around for another tray.  Too much wood now in one corner.  Plus I want to get that block of knives into a drawer.  I’m going to buy one of those drawer knife blocks and get this off the counter once and for all.  Then I will play around with things again for this corner and see what I can come up with.

Drawer knife block from Target.

Total cost – $63.97
Ikea containers {8} = $23.00
Pan Organizer = $10.99
Kitchen Pantry Organizers {2} = $29.98

Organizing…Moving Things Around

Well we have been ramping up for a “Garage Sale” this weekend and I have been purging left and right around here.  I just can’t take it anymore, so it has to go.  Stuff is priced to sell.  If it doesn’t sell then it will go off to The Salvation Army and not back into our home.

Here is one spot in our home office that really needed to be cleaned out.  I have an old armoire from my Grandma that I use to store home decor in mostly, but it has gotten out of hand at this point.  Before I took this picture you couldn’t even see the cookbooks because they were behind a pile of candles and such.  Sorry I didn’t take a picture before that.  But really these cookbooks were not doing me any good in the office.  So I reorganized the condiments cabinet in the kitchen and added the cookbooks in the kitchen.  I know crazy place to have cookbooks right?  ha ha.  I just never felt there was enough room in the kitchen and that is why they were in the office, but I never used them because they were in the office.

Here is the cabinet in the kitchen that I reorganized to fit the cookbooks.
Before
After
I moved the top shelf up higher and only put little things up there that I don’t use too often so that I could fit all the cookbooks on the second shelf.
All of my fresh dried condiments there were just in baggies on the top shelf before are now in cute little jars that I picked up at Ikea months ago.  What? What did you think those baggies were full of anyway on the top shelf?  ha ha
Plus these little guys hold all my cookbooks upright now.  There are four of those little jars.  Two are behind the two in front.

Here are those spice jars I used.

Rajtan Spice Jar @ Ikea for $3.99 {4 pack}

Let’s check out some other kitchen organization that I need or want to put into my kitchen cabinets.

I really want a knife tray inside of my draw.  I have knifes just laying around in a draw organizer, so they are separate from other things, but we always have to be careful when we take one out.  Not a good thing.  This knife tray will help organize the draw more and it will also be safer when we are looking for a knife.

Rationell knife tray @ Ikea for $14.99

Rationell Variera Insert Spice Jar holder @ Ikea for $3.99

I would love this plate holder….now only if I had cabinet drawers for this sort of stuff.  Oh to dream.  Ikea, I wish I knew about your great kitchens before I redid my kitchen 5 years ago.  Maybe in the future if I have the chance to remodel, there will be big deep drawers for plates and pots and pans.  Only a dream for right now.

Rationell Variera Plate Holder @ Ikea for $9.99

Now this is something that I could really use in my kitchen.  It’s a pot lid organizer.  It seems that you can make it shorter or longer to hold more or less lids.  Love it.  This piece will be going on my list to get for the kitchen.

Droppar Spice Jars @ Ikea for $2.99 {2 pack}

Kitchen Organizational Ideas from my Pinterest Board.

I need to do this with my cabinet that has all of my serving stuff.

Love the storage for the pot lids.

Gotta have your under cabinet sink organized too right?  ๐Ÿ˜‰

These are dollar store spice jars.  Cheap and cute.

This is why I love Ikea kitchens so much.  Such an awesome idea.

What have you organized in your kitchen or in your home lately?  Spill the beans because everyone would love to hear about your organization too.  Leave a story or a link in the comment area.

Thanks for stopping by everyone!!!  Have a great weekend!!!  :)

Purging The Kitchen Cabinets

Last month IHeart Organizing had another monthly challenge.  It was about purging your home.  The kitchen, Entry/Living Room, Bedrooms, and Bathroom & Laundry.  Well I haven’t made it through the full challenge, but I have purged my Kitchen and also my Bathroom {but that is a separate post}.

So here are some of my cabinets that I have tackled so far.  We are still working on the Laundry Room, so the purging kind of got put on hold.
I purged this cabinet of all the plate sets & glasses that we have not used in 3.5 years.  All went to our garage sale pile.
Just reorganized this cabinet.  Through out anything that might have been expired.
Cabinet under the sink.  I purged the cleaning supplies that we just don’t use anymore {we will drop off the cleaning supplies to our local town sanitation and they dispose of it properly}.  I also bought the organizer on the left from Bed Bath & Beyond to organize the small stuff.  I still need to figure out how to organize the rest of the containers.  Working on that one.
This cabinet was just completely out of control.  How embarrasing.  Some stuff was thrown out, some was put into the pantry & the rest was reorangized.  Thank god!!!
Oh the spice cabinet.  This cabinet can really get out of control if you let it.  I put some of the stuff on the top shelf in our garage pile because we haven’t used it in 3.5 years and the rest was reorganized.
The “container” cabinet was insane and my hubby didn’t want to open it anymore.  LOL!  Couldn’t blame him, I didn’t want to open it anymore either.  So I sat down on the kitchen floor and took everything out.  Some of the bigger pieces that we don’t use often have been relocated downstairs in the Laundry Room storage cabinets.  I also recycled some restaurant take out containers that we just don’t use.  Now I know where everything is.
This was one drawer I didn’t need to organize because it’s been organized like this since our kitchen was remodel.  YAY for drawer organizers.  It’s made out of bamboo and it’s expandable.  Love it.  Bought it at Bed Bath & Beyond.
Thank for stopping by.  I hope I have inspired you to purge something in your home.  Make sure you check out IHeart Organizing blog.  She is one crazy organizing girl.  She really knows how to get a room organized in a fashionable way.

Have a great day everyone!  Happy purging!
