Nursery Before & After

Well it’s more like Before & During, not really “After” yet.  But we are getting there.

We have gotten a lot done in the nursery.  We took everything out of this room, fixed the walls a little, primed, painted, added crown molding, added a closet organizer and painted the inside of the closet.  Now we are moving onto the furniture part of this make over.  I will post about that soon.

So here is what the 2nd bedroom…aka nursery looked liked for the last 6 years we have lived in our house.  It was a light sage green.  I always thought it was going to be the perfect color to go with a boy or girl when the time came.  Well 6 years later and my taste has changed.  Heck it was only half a wall that we would have to paint anyway, so what was the big deal.  πŸ˜‰ Well we painted the bottom half white again because it needed a new coat of paint.  So all the trim and the wainscotting was repainted white.  Valspar off the shelf Ultra White, no VOC, low order paint.  Love it.  It’s actually a paint and primer in one.  Did a pretty good job!!!

So I wanted to go with a neutral color on the top half of the wall.  I wanted this room to be able to grow with our little girl.  So I was on the hunt for the perfect true grey.  I found it really quickly too.  I thought it was going to take weeks and I was going to drive my sweet husband crazy.  But we went and picked up Valspar samples and by the time the colors all dried, I knew which one I wanted.  The lighter grey on the left.  Valspar Bay Waves.  LOVE IT!!!  It was the perfect true grey for me.
So we painted all the walls and then started to put up the crown molding.  We did the same molding in our Family Room.  It makes it so much easier with the “blocks” in the corners then trying to miter all the corners.  At least for us, we think it’s easier.  Plus we like how the blocks look.
Then you just have to install the crown.  Measure in between blocks and make  straight cuts.  Goes up a lot quicker.  We love how it turned out.  Now to get the rest of the rooms in our house done with crowning molding.  We just had to caulk all the seams and do touch up painting.  Then we were done.  Caulk is always your best friend with projects like this.  It fills in anything that is uneven or if you don’t have straight walls.  It gives your crown molding that professional look.  I have some close up pictures of the caulking project, but I will save that for another post.

Let’s take a look at the change the closet went through.  We were using this closest for our winter coats, dresses, curtains & my extra shoes.  There was also misc stuff up on the shelf above the rack of clothes.  We had to find room in the rest of the house for all this stuff.  So I purged first, made some donations and put the remainder in other closets.

So here is the closet emptied of our stuff.  We painted it a fun turquoise color on the inside.  Benjamin Moore “Spirit in the Sky” color matched to Valspar paint.  I will be bringing in Pink & Turquoise into the nursery in other ways with decor and bedding.

To make the closet organizer we purchased different pieces from two different stores.  We bought the Ikea Expedit for the main piece of the organizer.  Then we went to Lowe’s to buy one long metal clothes rod that my husband cut down to size for each four sections.  We also bought one large prefinished white shelf and cut that into three pieces.  One long shelf on top and two small shelves on the lower level of rods.

Let’s check out some detailed pictures of the closet.   Awwwww look at all the cute girlie stuff I bought already.  I couldn’t wait for my shower in June.  haha

Let’s see some before and afters next to each other.  I love the grey instead of the green.  I could have done a green & pink nursery, but I just love grey right now and I’m so glad I made the decision to repaint.  The grey can be paired with any other color in the future as our little girl gets older and wants something different then pink or turquoise in her room.  It will be fun to play around with different colors in the future.
This is a view from the hallway.  I love seeing the grey instead of the green.
Next up we will be putting together the dresser we bought from Ikea.  I have seen so many nurseries with this dresser in it and it seems so functional for a nursery.  I can’t wait to fill it up and organize it.
If you want to check out other posts about the nursery you can check them out here, here and here.

Thanks for stopping by everyone!!!  Have a great day!!!  :-)

Bora Bora Inspired Bedroom Moodboard

When my sister-in-law showed me some pictures she sent me, from a friend of hers, of Bora Bora, she wanted my help to see what kind of look we could come up with for her bedroom to look like a relaxing place on Bora Bora….sooooo like any good sister-in-law would do in return, I made a Moodboard for her.  :)

Just in case you can’t read where everything is from in the moodboard.

  • Curtains & hot pink pillow – Target
  • Blue & white pillows – Marshall’s
  • Bed frame – Pottery Barn
  • End Table & Dresser – Ikea
  • Braided Bamboo Rug – PerfectlyHomeRugs.com
  • Turquoise & Hot Pink Candle Holders – lunabazaar.com
  • Turquoise Vase – It’s from an international website when I did a Google search for Turquoise vases
  • Bedding – West Elm
  • Lanterns – Pier 1
  • Floors – sorry I just did a Google search for Cherry Laminate Flooring
  • Paint color – Valspar Beach House
Here are some of my inspiration pictures to give her some ideas.  I know they are not all bedrooms, but I was trying to show her all the colors together.

This is a Candice Olsen room.  LOVE!!!  I love how bright and beachy feeling this room is feeling to me.  It’s light and crisp.  Great place to relax.

She wants white bedding with turquoise walls & hot pink pops.  She wants to be able to recreate the water color in Bora Bora.  The hot pink pops of color are found in the flowers on Bora Bora.  She loves Peonies, so we hope to find some gorgeous hot pink faux ones.

Here you can see the darker floors with white curtains and the blues & greens she would love to incorporate into the room.
I thought this room was pretty inspiring from the Turquoise on the walls, to the white furniture, to the white bedding & curtains, to even the hot pink pop of color on the night stand.
This room brings in the hot pink pop of color even more.  Love it!!!
Welcome to Bora Bora.  O.M.G. this place is gorgeous!!!  Makes me want to go on vacation right now.

My SIL (sister-in-law) already has some lanterns for her bedroom redo, so this picture caught my eye.  Look how calming and romantic these lanterns have made the area.  And that turquoise water right there.  I think I’m relaxing already….oh wait this inspiration is for my SIL & BIL.  πŸ˜‰

These thatch huts of sorts made me think of Bamboo or Sisal rugs for the room.  So I thought I would throw a braided bamboo rug into the moodboard.  Plus this picture has the green palm fronds she loves, the blue sky & water.  Even the inside of the huts have the wood that she wants on her floors.  I love when inspiration comes from nature like this.

This room makes me want to quit my job, jump on a plane and just live in Bora Bora and be relaxed every day of my life.  A girl and dream right?  I think this picture says it all by itself….relaxation.
Love these gorgeous hardwood floors.
OMG I love this gorgeous picture.  Blue skies, turquoise waters and that gorgeous wood dock.  Now that is what relaxing is all about right there.
There goes that blue & green color scheme again.
This has to be the perfect color Turquoise I have ever seen and it’s all natural.  Thank you Mother Nature.
Hello relaxation!!!
Crystal clear water, the bluest skies, and pops of hot pink.  Even nature has it’s own pops of color.
Well that is it.  I hope you are as relaxed as I am right now.  And of course inspired in some way.  I need to make one of these pictures my wallpaper on my computer so I can stay relaxed.  πŸ˜‰
Anyone ever go to Bora Bora or another gorgeous island like this?  We have been to Hawaii and  St. Thomas and they are gorgeous as well.
Thanks for stopping by everyone! Have a great day! I would love to hear your comments, so please leave one if you want. I love sharing and inspiring others, but I also love feed back and sharing of others ideas and thoughts. :)

Inspirational Eye Candy – Bedrooms

Check out this Gorgeous bedroom.  So calm, so relaxing.  I love that she used Turquoise & Gray together for this room. Check out the rest of the room, click on link below picture.
I’m crazy about Turquoise lately.  Love the calmness of this bedroom also.  Light gray walls, pops of Turquoise all around the room.  Love the high ceilings too.  Gorgeous, bright room!
Gray, White, Burnt Orange and a little Turquoise.  Love the combination of colors.  I love all the different patterns in this room.  They all go together and play off of one another.
Here is another Burnt Orange & Blue/Turquoise room.  This room reminds me of the beach.  The bench reminds me of driftwood, the rug reminds me of sand, the blue bedding reminds me of the sky & ocean and the orange reminds me of gorgeous sunsets.
This last bedroom is fun!  Check out all the different patterns, yet they all seem to go together.  All the blues & oranges play off of each other and the white in most of the materials brings them all together.
Well I hope you were inspired in some way by these pictures.  Thanks for stopping by.  I would love to hear from you so please leave a message for me.

House Tour – The Bathroom

Welcome to our main Bathroom.  Actually our only bathroom…except for the one in the apartment downstairs that my Mom lives in.  When we bought the house the bathroom was already done, except the walls were white.  So we added a medium Sage Green to the walls and the accessories were sage green and a slate blue.  Here is what the bathroom looks like now.

Those are faux wood blinds that we bought at JCPenny.  Love them.

But after 3.5 years now, I want to change the color. I want it to feel more spa like, so I want a nice light Turquoise color for the walls now.  Here is where I found my inspiration.  Yes those are washcloths that I found at Home Goods.  And small little bowls I also found at Home Goods.  This was all the inspiration I needed.  I can paint this room by myself if hubby doesn’t want to help me.  So the Turquoise in the washcloth will be the paint color, the beige is the tiles and countertop and I want to add in a little more white to the room.  Not sure about new towels yet, but I will find something we love.

Here are some pictures that inspired me for my bathroom makeover.

So stay tuned for my mini bathroom make over.
Thanks for stopping by.  I would love to hear from you so please leave a comment.

Inspirational Eye Candy – Casual Dining Rooms

Casual Dining Rooms are so much easier in the home I think.  It makes everyone feel welcome and relaxed.  Plus they are a lot easier with kids.  You can have kid friendly seating (leather chairs or even plastic chairs).  I see more and more homes going with Casual Dining Areas or Dining Rooms lately….love the trend.
Enjoy the Eye Candy!!!
I love this room with Turquoise, B&W and then a punch of Pink.  Casual yet very classy.
Love the blue/orange/white scheme going on in this room.  So relaxing.  Plus those windows let in so much light.
I love Turquoise lately.  I need to inject more of it into my home.  I love the Turquoise with the grey/beige color.  Looks like an awesome place to gather and relax.
Love the brown/creme pattern on the bench and the wood table and chairs.  Great combo together.
I love the mix of textures and the mix of wood tones in this room.  Hello!!!  The dark wood table with the Pumpkin Orange chairs….gorgeous!  The white wood and the light colored walls keeps the room light and relaxing.  Love the texture in the shade on the window and the pendant shade also.
Again with the dark and light wood tones….but I love the pop of the lime green.  Very crisp!
Great combo with straight lines and curved lines to compliment this room.  The straight lines in the shelves and cabinets are then complimented with the round table and all the round vases on the shelves.  Nice little punch of color with the blue on the chairs.
I love the round table with those gorgeous rounded back chairs.  And there is that Turquoise again…in the chandelier & it looks like the backsplash in the kitchen too.  Love the pattern on the chairs.
Love the texture with the bamboo shade and the wood table, mixed in with that great pattern on the banquette.  Great family & friend gathering place.
I just love all the texture in this room.  Light woods with darker woods with a splash of grey/blue thrown in.  Love the light and airy feel of this room.
What an awesome place for a casual Dining Area.
Casual yet very elegant.  A room that could be dressed up more for those more special occasions.
Hope you have enjoyed the Eye Candy!!!
